Weekend's here

So here it was finally! The eagerly awaited weekend, given that the past few were so busy. I couldn't wait to start my Saturday morning, run some errands and finish off home chores early so that I could sit back and enjoy the rest of Saturday and the whole of Sunday. Shopping, reading a book, listening to music, spending quality time with hubby, watching movies, enjoying the cool Bangalore weather...aaah! It just couldn't get any better than this. The prospect lingered in my mind tantalisingly entire Thursday & Friday.

Little did I know that my weekend would begin with such a bang. I cross off the must-dos on my chores list and hit the stores with a vengeance. Sale on...Game on!

I stroll into one of my favourite stores early, its empty and I feel great that I can shop in peace without having to deal with 10 women snatching at what I've picked out and happens to be the only piece left in the store. The background music is the title tune from Braveheart. I sigh in bliss as it calms me and I move from rack to rack, lazily sifting my way through tops and pants. When I'm done I head to the trial room with an armful.

Settled in, I take my time to try on my selections. Suddenly I hear this HUGE blast of music. In a split second from the soothing melody of Braveheart to the screaming and screeching of a heavy metal group. And it's AWFUL NOISE! I mean, how can one just catapult from instrumental music to heavy metal within a matter of seconds? I am fuming, as it turns out to be a complete mood killer. I no longer want to shop!

Doesn't shopping ambience matter at all to store management?

I move on.. brush off my terrible experience as a sign that today wasn't meant to be a day for shopping.

Stop by the video shop to rent a movie. Hubby's been giving me grief on how we missed watching The Departed on big screen. We've no plans for the weekend but to catch up on movies. So I'm annoyed that the DVD hasn't been returned by the last customer and is overdue by a month. The late fine is more than the cost of the DVD. Do the math, Mister Late Return!

Disgruntled, I head home. Traffic being at its peak at 12.30pm it takes me 20 mins to get from Jayanagar 4th block to JP Nagar. Frustrated, I succumb to the pressure of cramped roads and take a 'short cut'. The short cut turns out to be a narrow lane with cars parked on either side with 2 way traffic squeezing through. I am suddenly confronted with a.. get this... 14 year old (!) driving a Maruti van filled with school kids (half day school) near Ragigudda Temple. He sullenly refuses to reverse into the ample space he has behind him (no traffic queuing behind him) and kills his engine. I pull up close, zap my window down and threaten to call the traffic cop. He stubbornly refuses to relent, rudely telling me that I should be the one to give him space to go by. I am stunned ...1) At the fact that he is probably 14 and driving around recklessly without fear of the law 2) At parents, for actually letting their children ride with under age drivers. 3) At him, for so boldly telling me what I should be doing. So determined are we both that we don't budge from our respective spots till someone comes and moves the bike blocking us from moving on our routes.

So here's to a 'fabulous' beginning to my weekend! Hope there are no further shocks in store.
